Babies galore...

The Singapore Zoo is celebrating several new births... births are one of the success markers of a healthy zoo that is really taking care of its animals well, and always great news that the animals are repopulating themselves, meaning less animals need to be caught from the wild, and also more critters to relocate to the wild to aid endangered populations! *grin*

Proverb of the Day

I'm back to doing my proverb of the day. Anyway, today's the 21st of July, so the proverb will come from Proverbs 21. The proverb(s) for today are:

"Human plans, no matter how wise or well advised, cannot stand against the Lord.
The horses are prepared for battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord."
- Proverbs 21:30,31 (NLT)

Yup, this is to do with plans for the upcoming Youth Alive... I find these proverbs both chastising and reassuring.. firstly, though we may be proud of our own well-thought plans, we are human and finite, and we should never be too proud not to open our eyes to something better God may have for us. Secondly, it is reassuring, cos while we do have the responsibility to make good plans and preparations, sometimes our plan falls short, and that's when God demonstrates his power. Heh. Power!

Things to mull about

This is a test-post of sorts, it's my first time emailing to the blog... Hopefully if it goes well I'll find it more convenient to blog from now on.

Anyway, I found myself thinking today that depression is a funny thing. I had a friend who suffered severe clinical depression for more than a year, yet none of us knew it. Whenever he was around us, he was always cheerful and enthusiastic about the silly little things that most people get enthusiastic about. I know other people as well who are in really tough, horrible situations, yet they adjust and present a good front to everyone around them, while their battered heart beats on inside them...

When I consider all this, I really wonder how the heck I can still ever feel depressed even when (particularly when) things are going well for me. Eeergh. I guess there's some flotsam dirt in my psyche that has been kinda repressed and pushed back? =P Anyway, I'll trust in God to make things right in the end, both for myself and for the good people I know who seem never to have luck. At the same time I hear sad stories though, it seems that God has his way in the end, and blessings really do flow in other areas...

We're the Centennial Class! Whee. Coincidentally, NUS is celebrating its 100th year anniversary, also coinciding with 100 years of university education in Singapore. A bit cheater lah, NUS itself was actually formed in the 60's, but we date back to Raffles Medical College, formed in 1805 Posted by Picasa

This is a funny pic - Just before my friend pressed the shutter, clumsy me dropped my scroll. I ignored it, but Melissa couldn't keep the shock from her face! Posted by Picasa
