Chungking Express -- Happy Bday Steph!

It's a weird, slightly disappointing but still positive experience when you've been waiting with bated breath to watch a film you've heard so much, then when you finally do watch it you realize you've seen it before (well, at least most of it), just that you didn't know it was *that* movie. I'm talking about Chungking Express, the famed quirky art film by director Wong Kar Wai. It stars Faye Wong, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Lin Ching Hsia. Whoa whoa whoa! Heh, my mind wasn't blown away cos I've watched it in bits and pieces, probably when it was shown on Channel 8. Hm. It's a really nice little movie though. I especially like the storyline with Faye Wong and Tony Leung.. they're really natural together.. Faye Wong plays a girl helping her cousin out at a dingy takeaway stall in Hong Kong, and Tony Leung is the cop who comes in every night to get supper for his gf.. and Faye Wong develops a major crush on him. What's funny about the story is that they are both weeeeird characters in their own right. Tony Leung starts talking to various household objects in some kind of reality avoidance act after his girlfriend leaves.. and Faye Wong is consistently listening to the song California Dreaming. And doing other weird things. Ha! But it's a cute film. More humorous and accessible than some of the other WKW films I've seen.

Aaaah, and a big happy birthday to Steph!!!!!! I remembered your bday on the day itself, then forgot to email. *bish me* Yep, sorry bout that. Expect a present when I can find something suitably dazzling and special for you!
