Angel & Devil
My brother got baptized last Saturday. To many, it might seem like.. it took him that long? But I'm just glad he made up his own mind and took the step! So who's the angel and who's the devil in our family? Well...Group pic.. finally!
Wow.. this is probably our first pic together with all 4 of us since the debater neoprints back in JC.. My head is like stuffed in just like in the neoprints. Taken by.. my arm, since "We don't need strangers" according to Steph. From left, Jane, Maryam, Steph and me.Mango jelly drinks
Yum.... mango jelly drinks from Hui Lau Shan at International Building.. on the left is my drink, mango and aloe pieces in mango juice, while jane's drink was sago in mango juice... Yums!! Fresh mango pieces and slurpy gooey stuff.. awesome.Youth Alive 2005: I was a stage manager!
Ah, can you believe it, I was "STAGE MANAGER" for an event.. a two night evangelistic youth meeting at my church. Well, it rocked! Haha, we had good drama skits tying into the theme, punchy and very not boring sermons by our youth pastors-in-training, and fantastic decor by the crew you see here. Yeah!Thursday, August 18, 2005
Proverbs for the day...
A few proverbs from today's chapter of Proverbs, Proverbs 18. They kind of speak for themselves =)Fools get into constant quarrels; they are asking for a beating (6)
The mouths of fools are their ruin; their lips get them into trouble. (7)
A lazy person is as bad as someone who destroys things (9)
It's harder to make amends with an offended friend than to capture a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with iron bars. (19)
Words satisfy the soul as food satisfies the stomach; the right words on a person's lips bring satisfaction. (20)
And finally...
There are "friends" who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother (24)

NDP 2005 @ Padang
This is the reason why the Padang is such a great place to hold the National Day Parade... the spectacular backdrop of skyscrapers on one side and the historical significance of the Supreme Court on the right. Lovely.. helped give me the sense of wonder at all that Singapore has achieved in such a short time. On a side note, re: my generation's political apathy and disdain of the ruling party, it seems we Singaporeans are way too demanding - of ourselves and of others. I say enjoy what we have, life's more pleasant and joyful if you don't complain. Heh! Or complain constructively.. I don't like people who are just "down" on everything. I think this pic gives us several reasons to be excited about Singapore's future: her current prosperity, and the heart of her people. Argh! Cheese fest!!The Merlion Riseth
Hoo haa.. all hail the lion... Singa! For some reason, both the 2003 and 2005 NDP had a segment on the founding of Singapore.. and our history as a wee little island with only a quaint fishing village.. complete with watery lighting effects and dancers pretending to be birds and fishes??!! Hello, get some new ideas!NDP 2005
Er ah, what can I say about it? Haha, well it was fun and enjoyable, and we all got into the "Singapore wave".. Because of new-fangled satellite technology, we had video link-up with the simultaneous Heartland celebrations in Tampines, Jurong East and Yishun... so when we started a wave in Padang, the wave "went around Singapore" and then back to the Padang. Heehee..Thursday, August 11, 2005
Corrinne May Concert 10 Aug 05!!
Woww... just went to Corrinne May's concert last night and it was amazing! I came away even more impressed than I already was of this Singaporean singer-songwriter. A little ashamed tho, that she had to go to LA to make it big before being so warmly received here. She mentioned in the concert that it's been 9 years since she performed here! Yow... Well anyway, she has made it in LA, and she's making it big in S'pore too.. the Esplanade Concert Hall was filled to the brim, all 1500+ seats. Corrine is a very good performer, humorous, and kept us entertained during the breaks with her self-effacing, witty quips. And she's from RGS! Whee.. from the NCC, and a prefect too! Hmm, a study in contrasts, from footdrill, marching, tekanning juniors, booking students for offenses, to playing the piano, guitar, writing songs and singing! Crazy but great. Anyway, if you haven't already, go buy her albums.. I already have her 2nd album, pictured here, and I want to get her first album (Fly Away) too! Songs are very touching, clean, not angsty at all.. She has a much more idealistic and romantic worldview than many performers out there today ;) Great performance, great concert, glad I went.To learn more, as well as get a free listen to Corrinne's songs, go to her home page.

We had a hilarious conversation on different kinds of friends... friend for "interesting", friend for "activity", friend for "trustworthy".. Well, as a friend for trustworthy I can't repeat much else about the conversation! Ha...
