Proverb for the day...

Darn it, I don't know why the photo from Yuhua Day won't come out upright. Anyway....

Well, the proverb for today is... *drum roll*...

"There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking."
- Proverbs 29:20

Haha.. of course there are a lot of good proverbs in this chapter, but I chose this one cos it seems especially dire... There is more hope for a fool... Considering how contemptuous the writer(s) of Proverbs is about fools in general, it must be a really bad thing to speak without thinking! Confessions, experiences of this?? Haha.. certainly I have done it, and regretted it.. For me it's usually when I'm in a fit of anger. Interestingly, another proverb in the same chapter is:

"A fool gives full vent to anger, but a wise person quietly holds it back."
- Proverbs 29:11

While the fashion in popular psychology nowsaday is to "get things off your chest" and "don't repress your feelings", it seems the wiser thing to do is to control your temper first and not give in to the feelings! Cos otherwise it is highly highly likely you will say something you regret. Either it makes you look foolish or, even more seriously, hurts another person's feelings. Moral of the story: walk away first if you have to, and let the feelings subside before tackling the situation. I've tried it before and oftentimes the situation (or person! ahem...) resolves itself without my angry, waspish intervention. Heh! God knows best after all...
